Tripods
While cameras rest safely in their custom cases, tripods get leaned here, stacked there, and stored where?
Repairs are made with home hardware or tape or both. The wedge plate is still on the camera, and the handle is missing.
We have gathered a sizeable collection of classic heads and legs for restoration. With an in house machine shop, parts are fabricated where needed and where material improvement is available, it's used. Tripods are completely disassembled and inspected.

The wooden tripods are chemically stripped of their original finish and checked for condition. The only sanding done is to makes the legs mechanicly smooth but we don't remove character marks. The stain which is oil or achoal based depending on the wood, is applied and allowed to dry. After a coulple of weeks, the ureathane finish is sprayed on to produce a smooth, durable finish.

Aluminum tripods have many more parts then the wooden tripods, but essentially the process is the same. After removing the old finish, the Aluminum parts are lightly sandblasted to provide better adhesion for primer and final painting. The finish is automotive trim paint which is proven to be durable in the field. Where the original wrinkle finish paint was used to cover flaws in the castings, our wrinkle finish has a finer texture and there for less prone to gathering dirt and chipping. The fastening hardware is replaced with 316 stainless where possible and pivot washers are replaced with Delrin Acetal, which is a hard form of Nylon. This Delrin is then machined to OEM specification. Many of the original glides were rubber which perished as rubber does. These are all replaced on every tripod we service.

The tripod heads are as important to a good shot as the tripod itself. We offer a range of tripod heads from O'connor, Miller, and ITE. All heads, if necessary, are stripped of their paint, cleaned, and re-painted with the original finish. The O'Connor heads are opened, have the o-rings changed and the fluid is changed or refilled, if needed.
